Burning Rubber

Can somebody tell me what it would take to get the low end torque to spin the tires on on awd turbo? Or would it take a clutch upgrade?

Shitty skinny tires with some decient power.

A lot of power and a heavy duty T-case.

Finally, I would like to go out saying that if you are hell bent on burning rubber I hope you have another account full of money to keep on buying broken parts (ie. T-case).

Why do you want to burn rubber and how??? i can bark um by launching a 6k like i do at the track. And there is a video on youtube of a 3000gt vr4 doing donuts..

Water.

Or lots and lots of power. 3SX's T4 breaks 'em loose in 4th gear.

I can't even break them loose launching and making a 90* turn, just grips and goes...kinda like point and click, only point and mash pedal.

Why on earth would you want to?

why would you want to? just to waste tread? Even when street racing while the FR cars are drifting id think the vr4 more suitable for grip driving.

anyway, if you put lots of air in your tires then you lessen the surface area on the pavement and can make it easier to spin. But dont overload too much and explode a tire in your face please.

i know why he wants to, cause its fun! i use to do burn outs in my dads corvette pretty much every damn time i got in it. rubber actually lasted a pretty long time for how many times i lit em up. he didnt need new tires for almost a year

seriously though, breaking traction in a rwd car is fun imo.

but as stated above, if its not in the rain/wet ground and or on some horrible tires, you can forget about it. any car that can be revved to 7000 rpm's and then dump the clutch and get absolutly no wheel spin with over 320hp....its just not happening without the above statements

unless your talking about doing donuts, that can be done stock on the right type of concrete

the AWDs just have too much grip. it takes some serious torque to break 4 255s loose. The cheapest way is to get some little pizza-cutter wheels and tries...of course, your grip in the corners will go to hell.

I take off at 6k and it seems the only thing im burning is the clutch would a clutch upgrade help at all?And yea it would be fun to spin them up every now and then. But I dont want to lose the fun of ripping around corners. And I dont to look like an idiot with skinny tires. So is there anyway to increase that low end torque to blast off off or is there no replacement for displacement?

AWDs just arent good for it. you could get an AM clutch, and just do a redline drop, and you MIGHT get a little noise out of it, but before too long your transfercase will shit the bed. you could get a heavy duty transfercase if you've got about a grand lying around.

like SL said...lots of power and a HD X-case

thnk of the AWD cars that can do burnouts...prettymuch all supercars like lambos and such. I *think* the Evo and STi can...as well as say a GSX...but theyre lighter and have narrower tires than a 3/s. and even then the burnouts they do are certainly not smokeshows.

sounds like you need to learn to launch. its an art i still haven't perfected after a year and a half. in fact, i just burned up my clutch tonight launching for a friend (I got a real good one in beforehand though). But yes a clutch upgrade will stop your clutch from slipping, but then, instead of slipping the clutch it will put a greater strain on your drivetrain.

Agreed.

I could turn all 4 over on the TSI with a high launch. But the car weighs alot less and the tires are much narrower.

And the "burnout" lasted maybe 1-3 seconds.

Well yeah dude, RWD burnouts are the best, so much smoke with an fr can, I used to cover whole parkinglots in a dense fog with my old firebird!:nono: but then again it pissed me off when trying to race and spining every time (it was an auto)

anyway, i dont get the point of wanting to in a vr4. to each his own though.

Or you could buy this 1000hp R33 Skyline if it is still for sale. If you want to see the AWD burn rubber wait until about 1 minutes and 45 seconds. And those are not weak tires by any strech of the imagination.

Nope, I saw it on Top Gear a while ago which is what made me remember it.
