gst or gsx

Hi, I was looking in to buying an eclipse gsx or gst. But I heard bad thing about both. Some questions I have is gsx all wheel drive system reliable and if can it handle hp gains (300-up)? Or would it be better to get gst? And are their engines reliable? Any other input well do….thanks

I myself prefer the GS-T for various reasons..weight , top end , etc..however the GSX is just as good but the transfer cases are prone to failure from what i've read around on the forum but then again there are 700 Hp awd eclipses so..it's all on how deep you $$$ pit goes.

If you get a GSX i've heard about a recall on the car because of the transfer case. I would check into that with the VIN # at your local dealer but if the recall wasn't fixed , I definently wouldn't mash around town too much.

Either one you get , instant tune up and do everything you can to avoid crankwalk if your not much of a mechanic because that gets expensive :/

In my opinion, if your going for a high horsepower dsm, get an GSX. You won't have as much of a problem with traction loss. Both the GSX and GST have the same motor in them. Keep in mind though you said you want a reliable car. The higher the horsepower goes the less reliable it is going to be. Don't get me wrong you can have a nice pretty reliable high horsepower DSM but, its not going to be cheap of course. If you have lots of money to put into this car go with a GSX. There are tranny rebuild kits to handle all the extra horsepower that are not too expensive. As of now on my setup at 17psi. I'm putting down 290AWHP and 306ft/lbs of torque. I have a stock tranny and stock clutch. No problems yet however, I don't launch it often. I have a friend with an SRT-4 that puts down just about the same amount of HP as me. However, it does him no good because he can't get the car to keep traction even with very expensive street radials and various other things. AWD>FWD

If you are looking for reliability stop looking at DSMs particularly turbo ones. If you want a rock solid launch, get a GSX. If you want highway top end, get a gst. Do a search, this question gets asked like 4 times a month.

STI, CIVIC, EVO, or Cobalt... seems to be what the members here have gotten...

I raced an S2000 yesterday in my GST, and only lost because I couldn't hold traction through first. If I was going for a higher hp car I wouldn't touch a fwd because it's pointless... pretty much any time I floor it in first the tires spin. Unless you plan on swapping it to awd down the road I wouldn't get a GST, unless you wanted the Spyder like I did :)
