Crank Position Sensor & Tach

I just replaced my timing belt cover gasket. I removed and replaced the existing crank sensor( 24X) . I am now getting CODE 336 Crank Position Sensor. The TACH is also not working. The van drives fine. Are these two issues connected? If RTV sealer got between the sensor and engine could this be the problem?
As I read further in my HAYNES book it states that anytime the crank sensor is disturbed it will set off a false trouble code. It also says that I must take it to a dealer to have a LEARNING PROCEDURE done. What in the world is that and is there a home mechanic remedy.
THANKS FOR THE HELP !!!!

The learn procedure is about idle air control valve adjustment.

also autozone prints:
To reset the IAC pintle position.
With the key OFF ; depress the accelerator pedal slightly.
Start and run the engine for five seconds.
Turn the ignition OFF for ten seconds.
Restart the engine and check for proper idle operation. .

If your vehicle idles correctly, it means it has learned already by itself, which it can

THe sensor is magnetic..hence sealer is not involved...I've no idea why it would not work but the tach depends on it most probably...all of this goes through the ECM...so it is not hard wired as such.
