Harmonic Balancer

I just had to replace my harmonic balancer which I did myself. After putting everything back together and starting it up. My ABS light came on and a day later my SERVICE ENGINE SOON light came on. I haven't reset the computer yet, just wondering if anyone had any ideas why the lights would come on. BTW, I have a 1998 Chevy Venture, 3.4L.

While working on the harmonic balancer, you were in the vicinity of the right front ABS sensor at the wheel bearing. You might have hurt some wiring or loosened a connector. Hope you didn't smack the built-in pickup coil in the bearing assembly. Just my $0.02

I eneded up taking my van to Auto Zone where they scanned the codes. It came up with a P0336 which is a crankshaft sensor. I didn't have them clear the code out, so I tried disconnecting my battery but that didn't work. So how does one clear that code and/or retrain the sensor?

Take it back to AutoZone, thay can clear with their scan tool. they will do it for free, at least around here in Houston will. If it comes back you know your problem is still happening.

the most exspensive of the two crankshaft sensors is behind the harmonic balancer. could be just a loose plug on it.

AutoZone said they are not authorize to erase codes, so they wouldn't do it.

the 3.4 motors have two crank sensors one on the back side of the motor, and one behind the harmonic balancer. the one on the backside of the motor will let the motor crank and run, but it will run like ****. the crank sensor behind the harmonic balancer if it goes bad it will not crank up at all. the one on the backside of the motor is about $30.00. the one behind the h/balancer costs $80.00. the only way to get to the one on the backside of the motor is to run it up on some ramps and reach up beside the exhaust pipe and put the new one in. autozone will clear the codes they just don't want a lot of people knowing they will. i had them clear mine but it takes a white shirt to do it.hope this helps you out
