Anyone here using a mask or respirator when spraying?

I usually wear a small, surgical-style mask over my mouth while I spray paint, but inevitably I suck in some nasty vapor and feel a little sick afterward :uhoh:. Does anyone use a mask that is actually capable of keeping a person healthy? I was thinking of buying a dual-cartridge, particulate respirator-style mask, since I'd like some eye protection too.
I get the feeling that I won't have this problem nearly as much after I buy an airbrush and stop using spray cans .
Thanks in advance, as usual.

Despite I use a ventilated spraybooth I'm using from an year or so a "100 working hours life" 3M mask ( http://www.autopaint-pro.co.uk/ekmps/shops/autopaintpro/images/3mmask.jpg ) I guess it may do not so much with isocyanates (2k clears & Co.) but at last I can't feel any smell. It's cheap and work perfect to me. Keep in the bag when unused to preserve active carbons)

This is one of those questions which come up frequently enough there's already a ton of info on the forums:

I always use a mask even though I have a proper extractor booth. You can never be too careful when spraying paints.Especially automotive type lacquers and clearcoats. They can be particularly hazardous to health.

Just like everyone else, I have a great spray-booth but the fumes from spraying automotive paint is still too strong. I have a 3M brand 07192 Organic Vapor P95 assembly. Designed for spray painting.
I'd highly recommend one even for Tamiya/Testors etc.. paints.

Sweet specificity . Thank you very much, 73superduty. I am now the proud owner of exactly that item, along with some cheapo goggles that seem to do the trick.

One reason I don't like spray cans is they shoot out so damn much paint! The only time my wife ever complains about the smell in the house is when I use a spray can. I'd say my old Paasche H-series puts out about 20% as much, and a much larger percentage actually ends up on the model. That's gotta be a factor in how much you breathe, even when you are wearing your new P95.
Excellent purchase, IMO.
