Scale Modelworld UK 2007 - photo report

The Sheene Machine
11-11-2007, 08:26 AM
My buddy, Dan and I made yet another 170 mile trip up from Southampton to Telford yesterday - always worthwhile or course, as it's a great opportunity to catch up with friends, swap stories and checkout some superb car and bike models.
At this year show, there seemed to be a resurgence of interest in car modelling, confirmed by the fact that non-IPMS club, Les Garagiste, were invited to display with the Sigs and IPMS clubs that have one or two car modellers amongst a sea of aircraft modellers.
Here's some photo's I took of what for me were personal highlights from the show. Excuse my amateur effort's here, I'm just getting used to my new SLR!! Enjoy

So, there we have it. My apologies if your model wasn't photographed. there were many more on display. Thanks to all who did, and to the chaps at Les Garagiste and the Norfolk club guys for making me feel welcome. You know who you are. :smokin:
Remember - if you like what you see here, don't foget to come along to Telford, England on Sunday April 6th, 2008 to the Modelsport show. It's held next door to the exhibition centre, in the hotel. You'll see plenty more like this and benefit Riders for Health at the same time. See you there. :)

You all need to remember one thing, he said he had to go over 100 miles to get to the show. Where I'm from that's not that far. I have driven up to 300 miles to get to a decent model show (in Memphis, Tennesee) only to show up late by 3 minutes, and the guys wouldn't let me enter the contest.

ANY WHO! What a great turn out for the show, I'm sure there are ALOT more than what you have shown. I wish I could have been there.

Yeah, me too! Fantastic show. The bikes were especially amazing. It's not easy to take such good "piccies" on the fly, but the Sheene Machine did a great job.

Wonder why automotive modeling isn't as popular here as it is in Europe?

Is there an English-language magazine that features cars like these and the techniques used by European modelers? Maybe we Yanks can learn a thing or ten.

These are great. I was really impressed with the subjects that are not so familiar to me in model form, especially the bike with the sidecar and that little #162 white car. It would have been a blast to see this show in person, thanks for sharing.

If I'm not mistaken, they're made by renaissance.. I can't find the exact same set but here's an auction just for ref..

Even with all the stunning detail and scratchbuilding, that VW bus with it's "incomplete" paint job steals the show. Awesome.

Remember, we're just a small island over here. The show at Telford is the biggest of it's kind in the UK. There were thousands of models on display from clubs and in competition, but most of those were aircraft and armour. In competition, the tables are swamped with aircraft, about 70%!! We only have one dedicated car and bike model show each year. I believe you have several in the States.

Thanks guys.

Not that I'm aware of. This is the first time I've seen this model. I guess it's about somewhere and someone knows who built it. :)

No. I live on the south coast. My next show will be Milton Keynes in Feb 08, I believe. Should be displaying with Les Garagistes. Then Yeovilton and Modelsport. :smokin:

Well that was sort of my point. If we had the same per capita level of interest in modeling, we'd have hundreds of shows/mags/clubs, etc. and so on. Contra the Terminator, America hasn't been taken over by the machines; we've been taken over by video games!

Now about that English-language car modeling magazine... is there one you'd recommend? Some of us like European cars and motorsports - and even resin and 1:43 - but we have only one car modeling mag, and it's almost entirely muscle, NASCAR, hot rods and kustoms. Not totally. but mostly, and I'm sure that represents the majority of American modelers.

The best mag I've found - for my interests - is GPM's Four Small Wheels. Are there any other good ones over there?
