Squeak coming from the engine

Hi all,
There is a squeak coming from my engine and it has been getting progressively worse over the past few weeks. It sounds like it's a bad pulley or something. The squeak gets higher and faster as I acclerated. I am getting ready to replace the belts, but obviously if something is wrong with a pulley as well, I would want to take care of that at the same time. Could it just be worn belts or something else?
I have provided this movie with audio for troubleshooting purposes.

It sounds like the alternator bearings. Mine made the same squeak. I had my alternator rebuilt and it went away.

Oh man, that doesn't sound cheap. This car has been paid off since March, but yikes! Between an oil change, new belts, new wheel hub and new front brakes, and now this, I'm not sure I can afford this car anymore. :)
Is this something that sounds like the alternator will break down soon, or is it just an annoying sound?
Thanks,
-GT

If it is a squeak I would look at the tensioner pulleys first. They will get dry and will squeak when accelerating or just idling. They are a lot cheaper than an alternator but they can cause the same noise. Usually an alternator is a high pitched whine that gets louder as you speed the engine up. Simple thing to check by removing the belt and starting the car. If there is no noise then chances are the alternator is the culprit. Once you remove the belt spin the tensioner pulleys to see if they are smooth or if there is a slight catch when you turn them. If so replace the tensioner pulley. Problem solved.

Hey I Would Check All Your Pullys I Had A Squeak And Next Thing I Knew My Tensionor Pully Seized Up And Snapped Both My Belts If Not That The Alternator... Good Luck

Hello I have a 2002 Grand Prix GT and it is also makeing
the same squealing noise if you remove your oil dipstick
it will stop instantly. I thought about the belts and pulleys as well and tried spraying them with a little wd40 but that did nothing. I am still trying to find an answer to this delima any help would be much appreciated thanks

Ha! found the problem. I did a tune-up on my GT and changed the pcv valve when I did the tune-up.It seems the new pcv valve is either incorrect or not working properly. I reinstalled the old one and problem solved. So If you have recently had a tune-up this may be your culprit.
