I finished this one a little while back.

Buick style side trim was made from evergreen sheet and rod.

Paint is Tamiya Mica red over gold leaf and Pearl white over racing white followed by a couple of coats of pearl clear then regular TS-13 Clear.

That is absolutely beautiful man! The paint is amazing. I've got a soft spot for 49 merc's and fords, and this is SA-WEEEEET!!

The colour is perfection. I love these types of cars and this model is spectacular. Nice display stand too.

I second everything already said above, super smooth and cool ride!

It's amazing how different a paint job can turn out besides the clear pearl I did just the same red on my '67 GTX and it doesn't carry the same hue by a long shot!?

The sidetrim is excellent, I have to try it out on my old home shopped AMT Mercury.

Not to highjack your thread but take a look at the different hue on the Plymouth.

Thanks Niclas, I think its more a case of lighting than actual colour difference. The colour on my Merc looks more like yours when viewed indoors under artificial light than my outdoor pics show.

Nice GTX btw.

very cool color, and well applied paint. Also you have some great bmf skills. Overall a super clean build, oh and it doesn't hurt that its a Merc as well...

Hey Dan, gorgeous build there man, but that avatar just had me rolling on the floor man:grinyes: :grinyes: :grinyes: :grinno: :grinno: :screwy: :screwy: Really cool. I have purchased 3 Mercs since the day they showed up at the Hobby shops, that color is sweet but I am also thinking of using the new Testors custom colors, I just have to make up my mind on which color to use. How do you like that Tamiya clear??? I keep hearing good things but need a little more input!

I can highly reccomend the Tamiya clear, I have been using it for at least
15 years (It was available here in Australia for a loooooong time before most other parts of the world outside of Japan).

I have tried many other types of clear and still not found anything that compares.

Unfortunately I cant comment on the Testors Laquers as the local importer/distributor doesnt seem interested in bringing them in to the country.... All we get is the Testors Enamels and Acrylics.
