Engine shutter

97 3.0L Vulcan.
I am having engine shutter when there becomes a little strain like going up a hill. As soon as things level out or the little extra umpth isn't needed, it clears up.
I had codes pulled and the lower stream front bank ox sensor showed needing replacing. Somehow I don't think the ox sensor is causing this.

Any ideas where to start looking?

Consider if this started to occur just after filling up with gas. If so, check with the station to see if others have complained about pinging after filling up at their station.

Try adding a bottle of fuel injector cleaner to your fuel tank if you haven't done so recently.

Also, you might have an EGR system that isn't functioning properly. You can clean the EGR valve and passages and see if that helps.

If none of these seem to have an effect, then you may want to pick up a can of SeaFoam and follow the instructions on the can to perform a cylinder decarbonization procedure on your car.

Rod, Do you think a cat. converter could be playing a role in this. The engine was moved to this car that had a badly blown head gasket and a lot of coolant was pumped into the exhaust system.

I can shift out of OD and it stops with a little increase in rpms.

How long since last tune up? Sounds like you may be having a plug break down under load. The O2 sensors will definately be affected if there was antifreeze pumping into the exhaust. It might not cause the problem you are describing though. Post the EXACT code back and we can help on the diagnostics more.

Plugs and wires were changed when the engine was swapped in with 105,000 or so on the originals. Less than 5,000 on the current ones. I have swapped ox sensors around and will swap again with the other car.

I had the code read at Advance Auto and all he would say was First bank second sensor. sorry

How long since transmission has been serviced. It is possible the torque converter is starting to slip a little under load.

Transmission total rebuild about 80 miles ago.

Took the car out on a little road trip today, about 40 miles each way. Noticed the shutter most at below 2000 rpms, heavy at about 1500. Also noticed some on take off from stop. Tried once from an incline stop light footing it, smooth as a spanked babys butt. Normal takeoff had it for the first couple seconds.

Have you cleaned the EGR valve and passages or performed the cylinder decarb as suggested in post #2 above?

Rod I have not. Is there an article for proper cleaning of the egr?

Which FI cleaner does this site prefer?
