Security Light

I'm not REALLY concerned about it but my security light comes on once in awhile ( about 1/20 times) that I start the car and stays on until I turn it off. Is this something to worry about or to pay to get checked out?

YET is the key word.

The light on indicates thiers a proeblem with the passlock system. Have you tried leaving the key "on" for a minute or two before you start the car ? That might make it go out.

Other things that might make the security light illuminate would be to much weight on your key chain, which keeps the contacts inside the lock cylinder from making proper contact.
Could also be your ignition switch or the lock cylinder going out.

Might also try the relearn proceedure and see if that makes it go out for good. Here is that......
Security relearn procedure:

1) Attempt to start the car by turning the key to the Start/Run Position.
2) Observe that the vehicle fails to start and that the security light is illuminated.
3) Release key to the 'ON/Accessory' Position. (DO NOT turn key to the 'off' position.)
4) Allow the vehicle to sit with the key in the 'ON/Accessory' Position for no less than 11 minutes.
5) Turn key to off position and allow the vehicle to remain in the 'OFF' position for no less than 30 seconds.
6) Repeat #1 - #5 for 3 cycles.
7) On 4th attempt, car should start.

NOTE : Since this is a fairly long procedure, I would limit all electrical sources, such as disconnecting headlights, to prevent discharge of battery.

NOTE 2 : It is SAFE to wait LONGER than the allotted time, but it is not safe to wait less time. I.e. 12 minutes instead of 11 minutes should be safe; however, waiting 10 minutes instead of 11 minutes is not safe.

Properly executed, this procedure should take approximately 35 minutes to complete

Good Luck

on my moms expedition the securtiy light came on sometimes and when it did the car wouldnt start. It had something to do with the remote starter, which i have on my car as well.

I just had a bypass put on the passlock system for my remote started AND I also have a pretty heavy keychain. I would have never thought of that one.

Maybe I should bring it back to the guys who put it in and see if they'll take a look at it for anything that might be loose or whatever.

Yeah thiers actualy a GM TSB on heavy key chains causing passlock issues.
My GA SE used to do it everytime my wife drove it, then I'd get in and have no problems. She removed the excess junk from her keychain and the lights not been on since.

But since you just had the remote starter installed I'd have them check it out. If somethings loose it'll cause some issues with the light coming on.

Good Luck

Yep, do as stated above. Unfortunately there are many installers that either use crappy bypasses or their method of install bad. When that light comes on while you drive means that the computer is going into fail-enable mode. It's not seeing the proper connections inside the ignition switch or for some reason just isn't getting the right code after it successfully starts. It WILL get you stranded sometime if not corrected or bypassed.
