1986 K5 Blazer having problems

:banghead: I have a 1986 chevy blazer that is really hard to get to start.
Once it starts it idles rough and runs hard
Some time it has great power other times it sucks
it will cut in and out while driving.
Have replaced carburator,plugs,dist cap and rotor.
very confused please any help will be greatly appreciated.

Is the Check Engine/Service Engine Soon light on?

No check engine light all fluids are up
new alternator newly rebuilt carb
was having problems bofore carb rebuild
hoped rebuild would help
any input would be helpful

Check the pick up coil in the distributor. The constant movement from the vacuum advance weakens the wires. Remove the cap and check the two wires to the pick up coil right where they go into the coil. They are 22ga wires and can break inside the insulation making it very difficult to see the problem. Pull gently on the wires, if they come apart, that's your problem.

The ignition coil is mounted inside the distributor cap, did you check the pickup coil? The vacuum advance linkage is connected to the breaker plate and the pickup coil is mounted on the plate. The pickup coil has a steel ring with 8 points over it. Two very small wires, usually a green one and a white one come out at the lower edge of the coils plastic housing. Iam trying to get it running good for my son he is going to take it to florida
any recomends on brand

NAPA usually has quality rebuilts, but any recognized name brand with a warranty is usually a safe bet.
