Oil pressure drop at Idle

Hey guys. I noticed the other day that sometimes when I come up to a red light and put the car in neutral, the Rpms drop down to around 500-600 and the oil pressure drops way down. If I rev a little bit the oil pressure reading goes back up, and it goes back to normal once I start driving again. (no CEL in case that helps anyone with diagnosis)

thats pretty normal, especially if your using the stock gauge. the stocker is garbage.

Is there a walkthrough on changing the stock guage? Mine is completely dead, so i just look for the oil light, but id rather fix my guage.

Ok so I don't have like an oil leak or anything like that? I'd heard that the stock gagues were POS's, but I just wanted to make sure

The light is for oil pressure, not oil level. Of course no oil would mean no oil pressure.

my car is the same way, but as soon as im at any kinda running rpms(i.e. 1.6-2.2k +) the oil pressure is right where it should be

exactly< i kinda use it as a fail safe, but i just tend to check the oil on an obsessive compulsive level. but anybody seen a how to on fixing this problem?

Well there may not be a problem, it could be the garbage stock gauge giving you bad readings. Or there could be a lot of wear on the bearings in your engine which would cause low oil pressure at idle. Or your oil pump could have excessive clearances in it from normal wear so it can't give enough pressure at idle.
So, start with the gauge or there are mechanical oil pressure testers you can use.

i agree it pretty normal....but you cant use the oil pressure gauge to determine an oil leak anyways.... just look under the car for leaks or place a card board under it and see...but if it doesn have leaks, it doesn't mean you dont have to check your oil either, check your oil regularly.... my car car has no oil leaks and no exhaust smoke of any sort.... but like after a few weeks i still have to add a little bit of oil...

hey twisted, thats a damn good time for the mods you have... im impressed, jus curious if you had ne fuel system upgrades at all, or how the hell you don't hit fuel cut like a mfer...

Thanks, and that was on one of my worst launches that day (1.91, was hitting low 1.8's other runs). No fuel mods, stock pump/injectors, no controller, pump not hotwired. I've never once hit fuel cut, no knock from what i've deduced from datalogs of timing/02's, plus previous owner did the hybrid ecu swap when he had it and it never knocked at 15 psi. 02's even show room for more boost, though without knock being logged real time it's not worth it to try for me.
Why? Do you get fuel cut?
