95 mirage starter repl?

I think starter needs repl.--it is on top rear of engine--is it best to remove from top or get underneath and try from bottom? the intake manifold makes it look hard from the top.
any recommendations from anyone who has done this?

its a 1.8L with auto trans but i think similar to many mitsus in 93-98 time period.
