Actually I'm looking for a new car because of the transmission problems with my '99 Intrigue. My question is this: Does the newer version of this transmission have all the problems that the one in the Intrigue does? I'm interested in an '04 Grand Prix. Any thoughts?

Get a car that is up to date with hp to match its displacement. A 3.8 should make a hell lot more then 200hp even the 260hp s/c is weak thats not even N/A. They don't give you valve timing technology either so the grandprix will be getting degraded very soon. I'd just keep the intrigue why buy the same thing again.

The 2004 Grand-Prix 4-door is basically a 3800 Intrigue.
Long Term: A high-output engine will need more maintenance than a lower-output one = a lumbering 3.8L is better longterm.
The 4T65e was new in 1999? =Expect improvements. If you look back, there were actually more catastrophic 4T65e problems initially than there are now = the truely bad 4t65e have already failed.
Did your bad solenoids throw out any OBD2 codes yet? =do you know what the problem really is.

I would goto your GM dealer and get your car and tranny scanned. Figure out the faults and what the costs will be.
A 1999 Intrigue is only worth $3000-4000 and to replace the tranny is damn worth the cars value. Some OBD2 codes could really help you out and something like a faulty MAF can cause tranny shudder problems.
