installing a remote starter

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and hoping that someone can help me.
I have a '07 Aveo sedan and need to install a remote starter on it. Has anyone ever attempted this? So far, I have bought a Bulldog remote starter, found out I need another module and a spare key to put in this module. The remote starter kit cost me $50, the module is another $40 and the spare key will cost $175!!! Does this sound right? Is there a simpler (and cheaper) way of installing this?

Any input on this would be very much appreciated. Thanks for helping.

sounds like a nightmare already. The remote starter is going to butcher up your factory wiring and make a mess out of your new car. I suggest leaving it intact and start the car the way it was designed: with a key.

I'd verify first that you have the coded keys. I've done a few of these cars and have yet to find one with the coded keys. This thing here http://bypasskit.com/product.aspx?prodid=PKG8 is a much better way and cheaper way of bypassing cars with coded keys.

I went to Canadian Tire, bought the $60.00 remote starter, went on there web site and got the wiring diag. for the Aveo. Installed in about 3 hours.
Works great...
Our Aveo does not have a coded key.
