Started the work into the front hood, the fuel tank needs 2 new intakes that must be machined at the lathe, the oil tank has to be painted or BMF covered.

Looking good Nino. Please show us your funky lathe tool for putting that very narrow cut in between the brass hex fixings that make them look like two nuts. Got to ask for Gio's sake...I just know he's gagging to ask you too!:grinyes:

The fuel intakes finished, a quantity of thiny bolts has been machined at the lathe for detailing the fuel tank, also the nuts must be made. The oil tank received the typical sign of welding made with milliput texturized using a 1 mm rod;the color is bad and must be repainted.

The boost controller builted in 2 pieces for a simple reason:in the reference photos it's placed just back to the shift lever and completely visible but in this position the car has the anti roll bar adjusting lever, and in other photos the controller is placed into the dashbord with the only regulation knob visible n this way it is enough to know what system is correct and to proceed in the assemblage without changes.

The two reservoirs of the hydraulic fluid for the brake circuit; the two caps have attentively been turned by the original pieces of the kit while appropriate centers has been performed in the new reservoirs. On the fund of the reservoirs has been turned a small pivot that will serve for the pipelines that go to the brakes pump.

Thanks for the comments .. Murray I prepare every time the number of fittings that I need for a single detailing, the maximum number has been of 6 pieces for the injection pump. I normally prepare the first prototype and in base to the pipe that I will use I decide the most proper size of the hexagon and I turn the fitting deciding and estimating the correct proportions due also to my 20 year-old experience with the true pipes (is part of my every day job) when the prototype is ready I make a small drawing with every measurements obtained (also for a future use) then I prepare the other pieces the average time is 1 minute for each one fitting.

Hi Nino

I've been following your WIP since you started it and I'm always speechless to see the huge work you are doing on this kit.
I've never post before on this forum but since I'm working on a 1/12 scale model too (Ferrari F2002 Revell) I would like to ask you something that nobody asked so far : what hose clamps did you used on the turbo and cooling hoses. They are looking just like real ones and I would buy some for my actual project.
Thank you in advance for your answer.

By the way, I'm the webmaster of Jacky Ickx's website :smokin:

Once more thank you for the comments, particularly for the great job developed on the Jacky Ickx's website :a lot of photos have been of fundamental importance for this build.
Saturday the temperature was good so a part of the paint job has been done, the spokes of the rear weels and the oil tank have received the same treatment and Alclad ll chrome has been spraypainted, but at the end the color don't satisfy me for the reason that results too glossy.Any suggestions ?

] Try Alclad Stainless Steel on the Oil Tank it is a bit more toned down than Chrome. The rear wheels in the kit should not be silver or shiny at all they should a dark mixture of Gun Metal and Black, Testor's Exhaust metalizer is perfect with a coat of Semi-Gloss.

Update: during the assembly of the last turned pieces I have met some difficulties and I have had to do again the extinguishers and the front X brace bar. The extinguishers were too heavy having been obtained from a bar, the new pieces are each one built in two parts with an inside hole of lightening, the front X brace bar despite it was equal in the form with the original one it gave some problems of assembly, I have turned therefore the original one after having cutted the upper bar as it is a separate piece in the reference photo's.

the oil tank and oil cooler have received a layer of Testor's chrome mixed with burnt metal (metalizer) diluted with Humbrol thinner.

Hi Nino,

Great update, as ever.

Just to clarify, have you made the fire extinguishers hollow, so that they are lighter? Is weight a big problem?

In any case, the 2 pieces of the fire extinguishers fit together so well that the join is impossible to see! Bravo.

Oh, and the X brace bar looks superb.

Kind regards,
Bill

Nino Furicchio
03-04-2008, 08:24 PM
Thank you for the comments,Bill yes, the problem is the cantilever weight the plate (0,5 mm. thin and 1,5 mm.wide)that represent the extinguishers holder must support ,as you can see two grooves has been machined to receive later the extinguishers holder for an exact fit of the parts.
A male female coupling has been machined in each one of the 2 half that form an extinguisher to have a easy glueing.

billypee
03-05-2008, 03:12 AM
Thank you for the clarification Nino. I understand now. It is a shame that those items you so lovingly fabricated will not be used, although I really admire the elegant solution you have come up with to lighten the gas cylinders and the male/female connection will surely keep them in place.

Regards,
Bill

Nino Furicchio
03-06-2008, 11:03 AM
For my curiosity I have wanted to weigh the three types of extinguishers, those of the kit weight 2 grams, those modified 5 grams and those not lightened 12 grams, in this way the weight is good compromise and i think to have solved the problem.
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg172/ninofuricchio/DSCN2342copia.jpg
The rear spokes after a first coat only to verify the color match with the true aluminum, will have now to glue the parts , erase any junction and do the paint job with Testor's exhaust metalizer. I have had the confirmation of the correct affirmation of 935 K3s from a photo taken by the book Brookland's drawn by an article of the magazine R&T (comparison road test) where the three versions have been tested 930 street ,934 group 4 and 935 group 5;some test datum of the Martini group 5 : quarter mile covered in 8.9 sec ,0 -150 Mph in 11.0 sec and a top speed of 180 Mph all this in 1976!

That is still very, very quick even by today's. I guess modern improvements have not really been in straight line speed but in handling and braking.

Nino Furicchio

Thanks for the comment, in this period I have some problem for this reason there have been no updates, the weather in northern Italy doesn't help me and the paint job of the rear wheels is a long task because of the small imperfections in the point of union between styrene and aluminum, puttyed , sanded and primed more times.

Nino Furicchio
03-22-2008, 10:50 AM
The sanding job on the rear weels is finally ended: has taken two weeks and not less than 5 fine layers of primer every one checked, puttyed and sanded again, tomorrow the final layer of Vallejo satin,i hope in the end of a nightmare for the weels. If i could return back I would not make the rear wheels in aluminum but simply confine me to regularize the diameters of the original ones at the lathe.
