93 Cheyenne heater issues...

Hey everyone!

My dad has a '93 Cheyenne and he tells me his heater isn't getting very hot....fine, not a problem, just needs a new temperature guage right?

Wrong. Put a new one in, it still isn't heating up. He said something about a motor that opens and closes the vents or something of that nature...anyone got any suggestions?

The actuator for the heat door is located behind the middle of the dash. When mine went bad, I removed the glove box and the stereo (where the tape deck used to be). That gave me enough clearance to replace it.

Make sure the heater core is not clogged. Check both hoses going to the heater core. If one is alot colder than the other, the core may be clogged.

You may also want to look at the thermo-stat, it may not be closing alowing the engine reach operating temp.

Yes, the thermostat is what I was referring to in my original post...not sure where I pulled temp. guage from....

Anyway, he blew out the heater core and hoses and a ton of gunk came out and it seems to be working fine now.

If a ton of junk came out of the heater core, you may want to flush the cooling system. If the heater core was that bad then the rest of the system may also be that bad and may plug the heater core again.
