Abs

'99 Malibu, 3.1, 188K miles I just changed the driver's side CV shaft out and a few days later the ABS has started to activate for the last one to two feet when you are coming to a complete stop. It only happens when you come to a complete stop and otherwise the ABS and the brakes in general are functioning normally. It happens whether you stop hard or slowly creep to a stop. I was careful with the wheel speed sensor when pulling the CV shaft out and checked the connection again. Any ideas?

The proper way to check this is with an abs function scanner this will allow you to read speed sensor inputs and you can pick out the one that drops out early, causing your symptoms. A resistance test may help, ft are around 1100-1200 ohms cold and the rear are 1000-1150.

Does you car react in any way when the warning comes on. I had a similar problem with my warning light in my 98 malibu and all it was was a faulty sensor.

The ABS light only came on briefly right after I had changed the CV shaft. It went off and there's no codes, pending or otherwise. I'll have time to hook up the car this weekend and check things out better.

A regular scanner cannot access abs codes.
