when i accelerate i get a "grinding/a paper caught in a fan" noise and it's on the front driver side. it only happens when i accelerate. but today i started noticing a smell from my air vents. it smells like when you burn your wires together or when a sterio system's wires are burning together. if anyone can help me i'm new in here and i have already posted something but it was kinda late. i would really appreciate the advise before breaking down on the side of the road.....

The reason I asked is because if it were a belt-driven fan on a RWD, I would suggest that the motor is torquing up and the sound would be the fan hitting the shroud... but that's not the case with yours.
The only long-shot guess I have is alternator? That is the only thing that would be stressed as you accelerate and have the electrical smell you describe, but that is just a vague guess. I guess its possible that the electric fan is loose and contacting something.
Any further description you can offer?

well my alternator is on the passenger side of my car and the noise is on the drivers side. also about 5 months ago i had my fan off and cleaned it when i cnahged my compressor and maybe the fan is going out?? i also have a sterio system hooked up. i have had it for about a little over a year and a month ago i noticed that the power wire thats hooked up to the battery was fried (burned) to the fuse box but the system still worked and i replaced it then and nothing so far but not the actually part that touches the battery but the other end of the fuse.. thanks ...

It could also be the blower fan for the climate control. I think that's on the passenger side too, though.
It could be a bearing in any one of several things, but if you're SURE its coming from the driver's side then it almost has to be the driver's side electric fan... unless its something dying inside the engine. I can't think of anything else on the driver's side.
