I stopped at a gas station today to grab a soda and when I came back out car would not start. It would not turnover or click like the battery was going dead. The hud showed 12.5 volts and I have lights and stereo and everything else. Checked the ign relay and also the starter fuse and ign fuse both were fine. Also tried to start the car in neutral nothing. Any suggestions?

Welcome to AF!!
This sounds like one of three problems. Bad Battery, Bad connections to the battery, bad starter solenoid. I would start by checking the battery connections by removing them and cleaning them. Then check the ground wire that goes to the block and the hot wire that goes to the starter. If that doesn't help then try jumping the car with another one. If it won't turn over then you will need to check the starter solenoid and starter!

Checked the wires and had the battery tested. I jumped the solenoid to the starter with a screwdriver engine turns over but will not start. For some reason I seem to think this car has an anti theft that will kill the ignition is there a way to manually reset that?

The factory security system disables the starter and the fuel pump. That is why even when you jump the starter solenoid, it turns over but won't start.

I have tried both of my keys, locked and unlocked via keyless remote the only thing that seems odd with alarm when set if I attempt to open door with the key alarm goes off. Is there a way to reset this?

eww, it sounds like your BCM is failing. You actually have 2 alarms. One inside the ignition and one that goes off when a door is opened. It should disarm with the remotes. Have you tried unlocking the passenger door with the key?

It does not have passenger door lock, just driver side I guess I should just replace bcm? Does anyone know if these need to be flashed or anything like that. Thanks

Can't you get it to disarm with the key in the driver's door? Yes, you'll need to have the BCM reflashed while you have all of your ignition keys present.

The 2004 and up Grand Prixs should have the Passkey III VATS system. If it were a Passkey III problem preventing starting then hopefully there should a SECURITY light on either steady or flashing.
Also, it sounds like the OP has a Content Theft Deterrent Alarm System which is an option. Not sure on the '04 and up models but the '97-'03 equipped with the CTD alarm system have a red led in the middle of the dash. When flashing it is armed. Once armed the doors will not unlock with the power door lock switch and the alarm should sound if someone enters the vehicle without using the RKE, use a key to unlock the doors, or inserts the key to turn the ignition on, damages the vehicle or tampers with the trunk lock. In this case the CTD alarm system may not be disarming.
The problem is advanced diagnostics is required using a Tech II at the dealer. The dealer can pull any BCM codes causing the issue. As pointed out the BCM module will need to be programmed if replaced and only the dealer can reprogram the remote keyless entry system.

so my car has a cdt alarm? What happens if I lock the doors with the key fob and the battery dies and I have to use a key to get inside my car?

With the battery dead you think it will work? Probably a moot issue and I'm quite sure the key will get you in. Rich should have the GM RPO code for the CTD alarm system so send him a PM with VIN and he can tell you. Do you have the red led on the dash?

According to my information if the vehicle has the CTD (which since it is a GTP, it should) you should be able to disarm it with the key in the door. There's a small purple wire that comes from the lock and goes to the BCM. When it goes to ground, the alarm disarms.
Do you have any theft lights on????

I agree to a point because technically if the CTD is setup with the factory default that is true but we do not know if that is the case or how it was setup. There are multiple modes you can program. One is you can only activate or disarm the system with the RKE and the driver's side key disarm will be inhibited. On the '97-'03 factory default is Mode 4. The '04 and up are programmed similarly and the instructions is in the owner's manual normally in Chapter 2 which I would recommend reviewing. For example Mode 2 is RKE operation only with no key. Also, one of the modes, Mode 3? is total disable of the CTD.

I do have a red led on the dash that turns to blue after disarm with keyless. But It is now flashing in 3 light blinks it will pause and repeat the sequence. I went through the personal programing menu and disabled anti theft but same result. I am having it towed to dealer tomorrow, thanks for all the responses.

Interesting. I didn't know you could program it like that to ignore the door unlock. Even so, shouldn't it disarm when you insert the key and start it??? None of my information says any of that nor have I ever ran into that issue when doing a remote starter.

Got my car back yesterday, A relay on the aftermarket alarm (viper) had fallen out. It was located up under the dash took the shop five days to figure it out they had to trace all the wires from the ign. Since the only code that came up was ign power.

Glad you got it back running!!! I personally dont like any aftermarket alarm systems for this reason. If I were you, I'd consider removing that stupid system completly and returning your car back stock. Especially since its now starting to get colder outside and it would sure suck to be stranded.

Well, I've seen plenty of horrors from OEM parts on vehicles. Everyone is always quick to dump on the aftermarket stuff. To me, it wasn't the alarm's fault but the installer. I can't imagine how a relay popped out because usually you have to use a screwdriver to pull them from their socket.
