I have a 2003 Crown VIc Police Interceptor in excellent shape... I just had the rear brakes done by a tech in the police garage.. I know they work on our cars allllllllllllllllllllllllllll the time but I asked him if the transmissions were real tough in these cars and he said it would need a tranny at 100k that they all fail around then... Does anyone know if there is any truth to this or was he just bustin chops.... We have over 200 cars that they service... I see some of these cars with 300k on them but how many times are they rebuilt?

I don't think I agree with that statement. we have some that go out sooner some later some never get a tranny while they are in service with us. if they are having a problem with failures repeatedly around 100K I think I might look at their service intervals and or what fluid they are using in them.

Is the shop you arte using a fleet shop for mthe Police dept., ormis it an outside shop? COuld just be a place they get extra money. We service over 500 CVPI's and we can not predict when they are going to fail. Some of them never get to the first service and we send the back to dealer, others go over 150k and never stt the transmission bolts removed. About the only time I can see any pattern, is the late summer after a bad winter where the vehicles get stuck a lot.

thanks guys i was hoping to get replies from specificly you two... THe tech I talked to is a city tech and they service all of the police vehicles... If a tranny does fail they do send it out to a shop but they do engine swaps and will do tranny swaps if they have a wrecked Cv and one with a bad engine or tranny...

I picked up an old chiefs car that is beautiful (fully loaded carpet power everything) for a decent price so I wanted to keep it for a long long time and then he hit me with the "trannies go around 100k in all of them" , that pretty much made me feel sick. THe car only has 67k on it. They had it detailed everyweek since new including the undercarriage

Just be sure to keep up the maintenance on the vehicle. If it was a chief car, it was probably driven as you would drive it and has had no abuse. Our main problem we find is the 1-2 shift accumulator spring breaking. This will give you a real firm 1-2 shift. It is easily replaced. Good luck on the ride. As I said, keep up the maintenance and you should have many years and miles of driving left in it.
