:banghead: i have had problems with this check engine light,
for 3 years , local dealers don't want to see me
come in , it runs fine , but won't pass emission test
, checked codes p0401 insufficent air flow to egr valve,
then the code reader register an second error, but list
the egr valve fault, latest dealership option , is the replacement
of the intake and tubes to and from the egr valve $$$$$$$$ :screwy:

Have you checked the egr valve? take it off, clean with carb cleaner, and while you're at it, clean out the tubes running to it. Use gasket sealer and rebolt. That may be all you need.

..long time I haven't have ford , but egr valve I've been involved..(I just checked your "other" post because I thought it was also about your Transport)
P0401 is a generic code : EGR valve insufficient flow..(no air circulates through that, just exhaust gases). This can be caused by improper operation of the valve itself...
I checked several engine types since you did not mention which is yours. THis valve is vacuum actuated....I'm very skeptical about this tube story ..the tube I see is rather the vacuum hose and that can be a problem...but not an expensive problem.. try plugging and unplugging the vacuum hose to see if it changes rpm...you will probably have to rev the engine to some higher rpm cause normally EGR is not actuated at idle....THis looks as a sturdy valve so I'd rather suspect control....but I waiting to hear from others who might have had same problem with this model....
