Has anybody installed an amplifier behind the back seat of a 2003 ext. cab? Just wondering if there's enough room back there, also does anyone have a JL Audio stealth sub that they would like to sell?

I was thinking about it after I swapped the OE radio for the Pioneer but have not got around to it, there seems to be plenty of room under the seat and if I were to go mega cool I would possibly turn the bench seat into a pair of buckets and have all the amps and woofer box in a center console and etc.
BTW if you have Onstar you can still get an adapter for the Onstar to voice over the speakers, Crutchfield and Ebay has them. I didn't need Onstar so never connected it back up.

I have an amp and sub under the back seat of my ext cab. I also believe there is room behind the backrest if you want to mount it on the back wall of the cab. I havn't tried it though, so don't quote me on that. I might one day if I have some free time.

Ya that's what I was wondering if it will go behind the backrest. I'm pretty sure it will fit but I am worried about it breathing and overheating. I am thinking snow could get on it under the seat, also I want to put a sub there and I don't think 2 amps will fit with a sub. rjeffery, what are you using for a sub?

I have 1 10" Infinity Reference in a single box. It puts out way more bass than I need.

Well I looked up your sub and only found a speaker, no box I was wondering how it was installed under your seat? I've been looking at the JL Audio stealth.

Here is the sub: http://www.infinitysystems.com/car/products/product_detail.aspx?prod=REF1052W&cat=SUB&ser=REF&Language=ENG&Country=US&Region=USA

That sub looks like it will do the job I don't pump the bass a whole lot anyway and the price is right. I'm not sure how there measuring it do you think it will fit under my seat I have an 2003 ext cab. Is it rectangle or a wedge? Does it stick out at all where your feet would go? Sorry for all the questions.

I have 3 amps behind my bench seat. You can mod it to fold down pretty easily. I have 2 12s under the seat in a downfiring box that i made. Here's a pic from when i had 4 amps:

It is a wedge and it fits under the seat of my 02 just fine. You can measure to make sure. It does stick out a little bit, but only a few inches.

all nice set ups here, I got a friend with the 03 extended cab, he put 2 infinity 10's in a custom box under his seat with the subs facing out, I belive his amp is inbetween the subs under the seat, works real well.
Much easier with a crew cab :), i use to have that piss poor custom box for behind the read bench that held 2 12''s...that lasted about 2 or so months, so I unbolted 2/3 of the bench and put in a huge custom box w/ 2 12''s , $20 for the 3/4'' MDF sheet, $100 for the amp, $75 for 2 12''s with S&H, enough bass to visably shake the windsheild wipers.
If anybody wants that custom box pm me ill give it to you for free just pay s&h, just taking up garage space now.

01silverado03z400 how did you mod your seat to fold down?
It's very easy to do. Note: you will no longer be able lock your seat cushion up.
1. You have to take your seat out which involves unbolting it on both sides and there is a V shaped cable bolted down in the middle.
2. Pull the seat out of the truck and unbolt the V cable from the seat and toss it cz you wont need it. I also cut the brackets off that were holding the cable to keep them from scratching my amps.
3. You have to trim the little hooks on the sides just before the first hole(see picture). It is very important that you dont cut too much off or else your back rest wont stay up.

4. Bolt the seat back in on both sides and whenever you need to fold it down just pull on the straps, lift the cushion up a bit and pull the backrest down.

Well I just had my Eclipse head unit installed and two Eclipse amps installed in the back of the bench seat and Dynaudio components in the front doors. I bought this system way back when Eclipse catered to the middle age guy and it's the best I have ever heard. Thanks for all the help with the placement of the amps. I've got my sub box and speaker ordered and should get them next week. Does anyone know the size of the rear door speakers?

4" X 6". I bought the plate speakers (square instead of oval).

They are 4x6 speakers in the rear. On mine i cut the hole a little bit bigger and put in 5.25" round components then i put the factory grill over top so you cant tell they were cut. I also cut out little holes for the tweeters.

Ebay is probably the cheapest place to get the sub.
My fronts are 6.5" alpine type r components. My rears are ultimate 5.25" components. I wanted to get type r's all around but i got these ultimate ones on clearance for 50$ so i thought id try them out until i get more funds.
To colormatch the grills all i did was took them off then i scuffed them up with some 400 grit sand paper, washed them and spray painted them with automotive touch up paint. Then i did a couple coats of clear.
