hello there, I just programmed a keyless, I follow all steps to do the programing, and it works.... but they key has to be in the ignition in oder to work, if I take the key out, then keyless don't work!! the only way my keyless is working is if the key is in the ignition at the acc position or start up. I thought I was doing something wrong so I went to my local pontiac dealer and the couldn't get it working right either and they say there is something wrong with the system so they need to check whats wrong, it cost 65 to check it... any ideas?

Welcome to AF.

It would help to post your year and model Grand Prix

You are right, sorry. I have a Pontiac Grand Prix GT 1997, got the remote from ebay and they send me programing instruction, but the problem may be with my car 'cause like I said, dealer say the need to check it, but its kinda expansive, 65 just to check it and then more money to fix it :-(

Checkout the following link which is in our Tips & Maintenance forum. See if that is the same procedure, if not try it first.

was keyless entry included from the factory on your car new? Or was is added later? If it was added later, I'd suspect maybe it was wired in incorrectrly.

its a factory keyless.... I think that car had an alarm, they person that used to own it installed it, that alarm don't work... may be they mess with the keyless wiring while installing that alarm?
