Does this count as a loss?

If it does, then I guess loosing to something with only 1.3 liters wasn't that bad.
On my way to work this morning, had a nice, wide open access road, so I decide to get on it. Have a bit of fun before having to do the whole work thing. And my little romp up to 110 caught the attention of a rather pristine looking 'Busa.
He pulls up next to me at a light, looks my car over and kinda nods. I give him the thumbs up on the bike, even though I just realised how damned ugly those things really are. I used to think they were sexy, but when you really look at one, not so much. Anyways, he revs, most likely as a joke, and I just kinda shrug and toss one back at him. Light goes green, and I just kinda roll off, but punch it right before coming out of first. After preventing torque steering myself into the next county, I chirp into second, and chirp again going into third. I'm hard on it in third, just rounding out sixty when he goes flying by me like I'm not even moving. The only time I've ever had something go by me faster was what I think was an R1 that flew by me so fast, it didn't even have the doppler effect...
He slows up, I give him a huge grin and thumbs up, and he returns the thumbs up, and takes off again.
I don't think it really counts as a loss. I'd like to keep the current record at 3-0...but against a bike, I don't think a 3-1 would really be all that bad. I mean, its not like I have a Supra or a Viper where bikes aren't all that much of a challange, lol.
Also, I just ordered the Mazdaspeed CAI. You only live once, right? Should be in by next weekend.

Hmmm, I think technically that would be a loss. But since when have we ever done things by the book on here anyway? :dunno:
And yes, both the Busa and Ninja ZX14R are hideous. Up close they are enormous bikes that handle like crap. They are uckin fugly.

Yeah, I mean, I've seen 'em on the highway and such, but when you really take a good look at it, you realise
A)How big they are
and
B)How ugly they are
The ZX-14, for a sports bike, is HUGE!

I would have to call that a loss since you initiated the race. But since you knew the outcome before you started, it's a good loss. :D

Hmmm, indeed. So, we count this as a noble loss?

Hm , i think bikes are in there own category. An honorable death sounds better :) engaging in combat knowing a victory is impossible, sounds kind of samurai like.

MS3 vs. Busa? Thats like bringing a knife to a gunfight, Cmon Cassie!
lol j/p man, but i would consider it a loss, but how often do you get to take on a Busa though? right?

True. I knew I was gonna loose, unless he dropped the bike, picked it up, stalled it, decided to walk it across the intersection, then get back on it and start the race...and even then it would have been close, lol. But I like silentscream's post so much I quoted it on facebook.

^True Story.
I just lossed to some kid with a 24 speed Schwin. In my defense he had gears and lightweight wheels.

Good loss, and good choice in your pic of a car. Those Mazdaspeed3's are getting rave reviews from all the magazines. I can't say the same of the Calibre SRT-4.

The irony of all this is since I posted this thread, I ordered the Mazdaspeed CAI, installed it, found out I didn't like it, sold it for a forty dollar profit, and put in a new intake.

I prefere the one piece design of the CP-e, the CP-e isn't as chromy/blingy, and alot of MS3ers are noticing some way off A/F numbers with the Mazdaspeed CAI, as well as getting lean condition CELs. As much as .6 points in some cases, with the CP-e remaining almost right on with the A/F ratios. The MS/AEM intake can be all over the place. The CP-e is also mounted a bit differently, meaning you have to move less shit around.

how much of an increase are u looking at with just what you've done now? I'm curious as to the moddability of the MS3, it seems to be quite good.

People are averaging between 18-25 horsepower from the intake.
At the wheels.
The one thing that really holds this car back is the fuel pump. The stock CDFP starts to loose pressure up top as you start adding more basic parts. People are seeing fuel cut with as little as an intake and full exhaust. Up the boost a touch, and its a given. However, they are showing very good gains with just minor bolt ons, as most turbos do. I mean, you are looking at near 10whp just from cutting a hole into the stock airbox.
My goal is I/DP/MP/Exhaust Manifold/Fuel pump. At that point, I need to start looking at a new intercooler or IC Spray. Maybe go full exhaust and up the boost a touch. That should put me very well over the 300 at the front wheels mark with some good, usable, torque. Anything more than that, and we are starting to need ECU solutions. With the assumed pricing of the PnP or piggy back ecu components (other than the eventual, maybe this century Cobb AP), you might as well start looking at a bigger turbo. The stock turbo is good for about 20psi, then you start loosing efficiency, pushing more air than it can handle. And most people at the forefront of the Speed3 aftermarket are starting to say to not even waste time on tuning the car without going to a bigger turbo. Hell, right now, most people who have any of the standback interceptor style ECUs are basically just running an expensive boost controler. I'll be holding off on ECU solutions till I'm ready to get some big numbers.
Other than the fuel pump, the only other problem we have been seeing is the turbo seals. Turns out they use a free floating design that needs backpressure to keep them sealed up properly. Opening up the exhaust to much has a tendancy for them to fail, and some are failing stock. However, it seems to be a real hit or miss thing, not a major problem. Even with modified exhausts, most dealerships are fixing them under warrenty.
With an intercooler, testpipe, 18psi (plenty safe for the turbo/motor) and a short ram intake, one of the guys on another forum I am at put down 311fwhp and 376ft lbs of torque. If you don't include the intercooler, thats not even five hundred bucks in mods ($150 for SRI, $150 for test pipe, $100+/- for BCD/MBC combo).
I'm going to be sitting on the downpipe for a bit, most likely around the 10k miliage mark, to moniter my turbo seals. However, I should have the MP in before year is up. Once I get that in, I'll be heading out to get some dyno numbers. After that, its the upgraded DP/CDFP/Manifold in some order. The CDFP was developed by a local guy, and he has just that and a K&N drop in, and will be getting it dyno'd soon.
