99 explorer probs

have a 99 explorer v6, and for the first time today it got really hot and started to drive funny. I know the iac needs replaced but my appt to have done is later this week. anyways as it overheated my rpms raised about 600-700 i turned the heat on to try to lower the temp it just got hotter. and the heat from the vents was unbearably hot. any suggestions

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR CAR AT ALL HOT!!!!!!!!
Is your radiator full? Do you have any coolant leaks anywhere? Any leaks at all? If the coolant is full your radiator could be plugged up. When is the last time you flushed the coolant? How many miles are on it? Have you ever replaced the thermostat, it could be stuck? I dont think the IAC would have anything to do with you overheating. I dont see why it would need to be replaced, who told you that and why? Have you checked your oil, is it milky at all? Sorry but i have to go so im in a hurry......Ill check back in a few hours.
I would skip that appointment and just clean the IAC yourself. If you take off you intake cover (the big black plastic cover on the top of your engine that says 4.0 SOHC), its just 4 7mm bolts, directly underneath the cover on the top of the intake youll see your IAC, its silver and looks kind of like a little metal pipe. There are just two 10mm bolts holding it on, and the electrical plug. Unplug it, remove the bolts and just soak the insides (you will see two holes when you turn it upside down) with a Non-Residue Leaving Electrical Parts Cleaner (you can get that at any parts store just ask em). Make sure it is completely dry and put it back together the same way you took it apart. Itll cost you like $3 for the cleaner........good luck

the reason i was told to replace the iac is everyonce and awhile when i got to start it it revs high then dies. it was cleaned once but they said i should replace it since it started again after about 4 days. miles are at 112xxx and i bought it in feb of 07 and from what i was told the coolant was just flushed and filled at the dealership. yes its full and no known leaks i do have a coolant system leak test and will perform tomorrow evening. thermostat never changed to my knowledge. as far as the oil its still looks clean and new with 2000 miles on this oil change. i just think its weird that it gets hot when my engine idles up thanks for your help!!!!
