i just bought a 92 sunbird with a 2.0 and was told it has a plugged rad which it does not appear to it seems to be flowing fine and it takes awhile to heat up and today after running for about 45 minutes it got a little above the half way mark on the heat gauge and the fan did not come on so i unplugged the temp sensor and the fan did come on,
did i maybe not let it heat up enough for the fan to kick in or do i have something wrong and where can i start looking
thanks

Do not know normal gauge readings for this particular car, but it might be worth your time to invest in a radiator cap... very common for the rubber seal on the cap to go bad... $5 and 5 minutes can save a big headache....
You may have two sensors... one that is a switch for the fan relay and the other to work the gauge..... check to make sure both are operating properly...
