pontiac 91 sunbird oiling problems

I installed a head on my 2.0 and after tweaking it here and there it has been running pretty good for about two weeks. I went out to start it this morning and it was making all kinds of scary knocking noises and the oil light came on. I shut her down and did alot of checking not able to find anything wrong. So after about 2 hours I fired her up again and it sounded fine and the oil light was off. The only thing I can think of is that the oil pump might be clouged or going out. Can anyone help me out here? I would hate to be going down the road and it stop oiling. Please help and Thanks George:screwy:

I've heard of sludge and gasket material making its way into the oil pan to clog up the pump screen......
