I unfortunaltey don't have a garage to store my car in for the winter, nor do I have another car to drive.

Mine is a spring summer and fall car (stored in my garage all winter due to salt), which in MN sucks ass because thats only about 7 months

If it's more than 5 inches of snow I drive my Olds most of the time. I'm happy this year with the new job because the car sit in the garage M-F so it'll be nice and sheltered. However, should I need to take it someplace, my driveway is a bitch to shovel. I'll show a pic later on why.

Ahh. I so look forward to moving back to FL. End of the year! woopt.

No snow here in San Diego either.

I once went to Iowa during Christmas time to visit my ex-wifes family. There was ice on the road and they made me drive! (My first time) I think I almost wrecked about 10 times on the way to the mall. I didn't understand when they said I needed to start breaking light and early because of the ice, that they meant I needed to start breaking like half a mile before I wanted to stop! ;)

It was scary and I will never do it again. Give me rain any day please.

Lol here on AF we love talking about how cold it gets in our towns.

My cabin in International Falls hits well below -15 or -20 w/o windchill on some nights...ouch

Embarrass, MN has had a near world record low of -54F on the thermometer (no windchill) - the record is -57F

We got a few inches of snow today. I will be driving the talon in it all winter once i get the stroker in there. As if it wasn't already easy enough to do donuts in the 2.0...

We had snow here in NE Ohio too... Didn't stick to the ground barely, but it came down pretty good for a while... It was like 28 degree's today... I'm already sick of this time of the year. :(

gthompson97
11-06-2007, 08:24 PM
I wish I could call 60 cold. 22 here right now, it snowed a bit yesterday but not enough to accumulate, and the ground was still too warm so it just melted, but if it snows from here on out it's definitely cold enough that it'll stay on the ground. Maybe, just maybe we'll get enough for a good snowmobiling year *crosses fingers and bows down in prayer*

It's been sticking just fine here. Made driving home kinda suck. It just hasn't quit all day

Yea here in central MN for some reason we will get rain all god damn fall, but we cant get a decent year. May be contradictory to people outside of MN's thoughts of what its like here. Although, I am considering a good year about 12" - 24" at all times. I snowboard and when its like 60% fake snow like the last about 5 yrs its not as good.

gthompson97
11-06-2007, 09:35 PM
The winters haven't been nearly as good around here since like 97. I remember when I was little we used to get this snowdrift on the side of our house that was literally, no lie, 20-25 feet tall. We'd build a maze of snow tunnels and everything through it, it was badass. Now we hardly get enough to even make 3 foot drift, it sucks.

wow,

can't believe this generated a 2 page topic in 1 day, anyway, I was just asking cause i'm going to drive the GS-T in the snow this year...I have no choice and just wanted to see who else did.

thanks for the input

I could use the eclipse for a snow plow if I really wanted to...but I like my front bumper. :dunno:

I tend to store the spyder now. I drove my original in the winter but we get a crap ton of ICE here.. The car was too light and that lead to it's demise.... I now drive my rav4 in the winter all the time and leave the eclipse. Despite the rav being worth tons more it's worth less to me sentimentally if it were destroyed.

I was able to store it the first winter I had it because I had a beater Cutlass Supreme to roll around in, but I sold that to my sister and now this is all I have to drive. Can't afford to buy another beater either, tuition just went up again and oil hit $96/barrel...:disappoin

Now that it's getting cooler outside I find myself driving my gsx more. It feels like a new car at 40 rather than 100. In Alaska they didn't even use salt, they threw down sand for traction. I can remember driving the old talon out to fairbanks at 62 below. The temp gauge made it about a quarter of the way up, the tires were so solid that you could feel every bump in the road, and when coming to a stop the clutch was hard to push in and slow to come back up. I don't know how many red lights I ran up there due to the fact that unless you see the light turn yellow about half a mile down the road, and then start down shifting and tapping the break, your not gonna be able to stop in time. This was mainly during break up in the spring when the snow would melt during the day and then freeze at night. After 4 winters up there, theres no rust and it's still kickin. Surprisingly I never wrecked the car up there and kept street tires all year long.

Yea MN is like the only state around here that uses salt, probably because of the Twin Cities. Bordering states dont allow it because of farming. They might use it on like 94 thru ND and Wisc. tho.

I'm pretty sure they don't use it on 94 in ND. They use sand on some of the on/off ramps and stuff, but I don't think they use salt. That shit ruins cars.

Your tellin me. Basically everyone in my area goes to Wisc. to look for cars, to avoid rust. Also, they are a hell of alot cheaper when you get away from the city. I took the talon to my dad's friend's house in Somerset, WI knowing that people look for cars there. Ended up selling it to a guy from the next town over from me.

I don't know what you're talking about, I live in Wisconsin and they use salt all the time. On some country roads they use sand, but in town and any major highways they use a combo of salt/sand.

Hm, I know for sure they dont in SD. Just seems like many people from MN head to wisc to look at cars. Somerset is about an hour away from my house. Sorry guess I was mistaken. But I do see alot more rust here then there. Amount?

I drove mine in winter when I first got it bone stock and not lowered. Now I would plow snow even in light snowfalls so it sits the winter out and the ranger gets driven. AWD is really fun in the snow though

I have never driven this Talon in the winter seing as it has only been mine for about 3 months now. But my last Talon was put thru the winter snow, and she got stuck way too much lol. That is with no lowering at all, and winter tires.

I have to drive in the snow i dont have an option. I feel bad for you guys who have to snowboard on fake snow or cant snowmobile. Maybe you guys heard about the blizzard in colorado last year but anyway one of the ski resorts had a 12' base!

I park it, mine had two owners before me, all from MN, and its not fun when shit like your pulley tention release is fucking rusted stuck, or bolts snap off instead of turning..... i would never drive mine during the winter with all that salt! I BRING OUT THE SATURN! MONSTEROUS BEAST!

I have to drive my car all year long because the only thing I could ever drive is my parents car but it almost seems like theyre either not home or theyre going some where. But yes the power sliding is super fun but trying to slow down without abs is a total bitch. If im even going down a just a little hill and hit the brakes they will almost always lock up no matter what kind of pressure I put in the pedal or how many times I may pump it. Really scarry. I would reccomend some snow tires for your fwd though because you may not be going anywhere depending on the conditions.

That's whats nice about engine braking, or downshifting into a lower gear.

Yes true, but when I'm skidding down wy steep ass driveway hardly anything will bring my car to a stop. I'll agree though it does help.
