can i re-use short block after timing belt snap?

hey everybody! new in neon land! i just came across a 98 sohc that snapped a timing belt what are the chances i can re-use the short block after the valve crunching that happened?:screwy: thanks! mike

p.s. i know i will need a used/re-con head!

Pull the head and examine the pistons. If they only have minor damage it should be ok. I did a volvo 6 cylinder which banged all valves and it worked fine after a valve job with all new valves.
A friend damaged a mitsubishi head when he put the timing belt on wrong bent all valves. I lent him a manual and he got it 1/2 correct the second time and banged 1/2 the valves. A 16 valve 4 cylinder engine. He put the belt on correctly the third time. A lot of new valves but the short block was alright.
A lot of the time not all valves are bent.
All my bent valve experience was on foreign cars.
