Metro Transmission

Hi all: I'm swapping the trannny on my 95 metro 3cyl 5 spd. Per my manual, my tranny s/n S427046 is correct for the 95 and it should have a 4.39 rear gear ratio.
The new tranny has a S/N R417513. It came out of a 92 metro but I don't think it was the original tranny. Can anyone tell me the year of the new tranny and the rear gear ratio based on the serial number?
Also, the shift rod boot is broken. Can this boot be replaced without major teardown of the transmission? If not, then is there a good way to seal the rod without opening up the transmission case?
