So I was diriving..rather normally for me and suddenly CEL...so I happen to be next to a Autozone and I pull in, this is what they got from their OBD2 reader..

Troubleshooting P1487
OEM BRAND : Mitsubishi

Def :
High speed radiator fan control relay circuit

Problem Causes :
1 - Open short circuit condition
2 - Poor electrical connection
3 - Failed Relay
4 - Failed ignition switch

I didnt do anything weird , change anything recently or anything..out of the blue and I was wondering if there is a diagram for the error code which I can follow to eliminate the problem or if you guys could help me out I would appreciate it.

Does your radiator fan turn on when its supposed to? I've never even heard of this code. Did you try replacing the relay, that might have just went bad. Hope you get it figured out.

Uhmm...im not sure..I can turn the heater on and both fans on the radiator kick on O.o I would replace the relay if I knew which one it was as well...but as far as fans it doesnt seem like either one turn at temps of cold , OT , and hot...however if I turn the heater switch to even 1 low then both fans kick on and stay on until I turn the switch back to off.

I did swap some of the fuses around to make sure and they all work so it has to be a relay or the something else :/..my wire harness is in tact and untouched so I doubt I have a circuit short anywhere between the ECU and FANS ....maybe at the ends ?

Is this the only relay for the fan ? because I switched it with the otheres numbered the same and they all seem to 'work' as far as I can tell as everything else works when swapped with the fan one.

Well I wired both of my fans together so when the coolant temp reaches 205* the radiator and a/c fans both come on. I don't see why those fans would come on just by turning on the heater unless you had the a/c or defrost on. That looks like the relay, but not sure if its the right one. Im not sure about the 420A's, but on the 4g63 it's in the fuse box under the hood. There should be a HI and LOW speed relay for the radiator, and HI and LOW for the A/C. Do you still have the cover that tells what all the fuses and relays are? Did you try clearing the code and seeing if it comes back.

When you reach over 205* they should come on. When you turn the A/C on they should come on. When you turn the defrost on, that turns the a/c on which should turn the fans on. As long as that happens I don't think you have anything to worry about. Really the only thing you should be concerned about is if they don't come on when the coolant temp is over 205*

I dunno , all I know is when I turn the heater on both fans kick on and my A/C button light turns Green when not engaged if the switch is windshield / feet or just windshield but if the vent is face , feet , or face and feet the green light is off.

I tried swithcing them all around to see if I could get a different response and nothing different. As fat as clearing the CEL's , I know on my mazda 6's it's simple just pop a battery cable , put the ket in ignition , turn to on and pump the brakes for abuot 30 seconds = instant clearing of all OBD2 error codes but I tried the same thing with the eclipse and no go...is there a special way I can clear the codes on my own I am unaware of ? :/

The only reason why its bothering me is because my emissions are also due and it wont pass if OBD2 is kicking out errors , any = instant fail and all cars fail post OBD2 if the CEL is on but pulling the CEL buld won't be enough anymore =(

Disconnecting the battery for like 30 seconds usually clears the codes, but who's to say it won't come back again.
