I have a 1994 3.4 V6 camaro. When I shift sometimes it makes a nasty grinding noise, and sometimes wont even go in gear and just grinds. The clutch was replaced not too long ago before i bought the car from my friend, and it's not slipping or anything, so it's fine.
Basically I think it's the throw out bearing that i need to replace so does anyone have a really good guide on how to replace this? I have the Haynes repair manual but its pretty confusing. In the past some internet articles have been more helpful but i can't find any. If you can be of any help I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks,
Josh

Remove driveshaft, unbolt trans from bellhousing and either remove it or move it back far enough that input shaft is all the way out of clutch, remove clutch fork spring, move clutch rod / adjustment rod if necessary, move clutch fork back (towards rear of car) take old out, put new in, reverse step to reassemble.
I don't have an inpection cover on my bellhousing, not sure if there's supposed to be one or not, (really could care less) but you'll probably have to remove it if you have one.
Not really that hard, just a big pain in the ass, might take you a 2-3 hours depending on how fast you work and how careful you are. Trans is heavy... might need to get a jack (with wheels) and a piece of wood to support it - the wheels will help ou move it a little. Unfortunately I think you're gonna find that unless you go and by an actual trans jack - provided you're strong enough - it'll be easier for you if you make sure you have your car up high enough and use your hands to move the trans around. I have a 4 speed - about 80 pounds - and using a jack is more trouble than it's worth.
I really don't think the throw out bearing is your problem, but good luck.

Oh yeah - Haynes manuals suck... you need to do a search on your model trans and if you're lucky you'll find some decent stuff. There's a site by some guy named "squid" that has some great pic's, but again that's for a muncie. Squid's Fab Shop or something like that.
Here's another - http://ca.geocities.com/mlvd@rogers.com/muncie_rebuild.htm
The bottom has a little troubleshooting section, might help you out.
If you can find an exploded view of your trans, it'll help you alot.
It sounds to me like you've got some ground gears... that's not cheap to fix, but cheaper if you do it yourself... you might just want to rebuild it, or buy a new one. I rebuilt mine - got stuff from www.fourgeartrans.com (http://www.fourgeartrans.com) for about $200 I think - and it took me about 3 days (I took me ever-loving sweet-ass time) - 4 if you count the time I spent fixing something I forgot to do.

i'm with earl on this....sounds like fried gears, or maybe a synchro ring is toast. try double clutching it when going into the suspect gear(s), or not using the clutch at all to shift. let us know what happens
