I finally settled on a new car...

Well guys, I finally did it... I'm glad I held out on getting a new car, because I got a great deal...

Yesterday I sold the Firebird to a kid and bought an 06 Cobalt... for 8,500... I am really happy with it too. I didn't think much of it cause it was a Cobalt, but this thing actually picks up and goes better than the Firebird did. The blue book on it was 10,700, so I'd say it was a good deal and a nice daily driver... No reason this thing shouldn't last me 15 years or so...

Anywho... I'll leave you guys with a few pictures of it. (As if you don't already expect to know what it looks like or something. lol :p)

And of course I had to put an artsy picture of it in here too. lol...

Nice buy, sounds like you got a deal on it.
So I take it its not supercharged?

Unfortunately, no. lol... But I am really surprised as to how peppy it is for a 2.4...

I don't have any plans of modding it, as I want it to be a reliable daily driver that I can always count on. I'm sure the Talon will be really reliable too with all I've done, but I still want a back up car... The Firebird just wasn't fitting the needs either... Especially at 17MPG... :uhoh:

So far I am averaging about 30MPG on this thing... Definitely a nice improvement. :)

I may do a few appearance things, like tint the windows and possible lower this thing... Eventually... Right now it sits up pretty damn high for a car... :disappoin

I'd say find a nice set of stock cobalt ss wheels and springs. That way you don't have to worry about bustin up the shocks with stock springs.

Thats exactly what I was thinking about doing... :)

I bet some retard has already wrecked one somewhere bad enough that its totaled, but that stuff will be fine.

Those are nice cars. Did you hear that GM is puting the turbo engine from the solstice GXP in the 2009 Cobalt SS. Supposed to come with like 260 HP from the factory.

Nice car... I was going to call bull shit on you finally deciding until I saw pictures. The ecotec is a good boost motor from what I hear, they take to it really well and their internals are built good.

Perhaps it could turn into a fun little project next summer then when I have the Talon to drive around in...

No Brian, leave it stock. You need a good car because you know that Talon is going to not be nice to you... I think you need to THROW SOME D'S ON THAT BITCH!

Seriously though, I think they are a smooth looking car when you lower/rim them. I really like the SS kit too, I would for sure do that if I had one. The S/C'd ones really arent that fast, I matched pulls with one when I was on 3 cylinders last year...

The SS's use a completely different front and rear bumper though... I don't think I wanna put that kind of work into it... I ditched the front license plate bracket tonight and detailed the entire thing and it looks 1000 times better already... I'll probably just do some SS springs and wheels next spring and that'll be it... Maybe... lol

Oh it's so tempting to turbocharge it... It's already so fun to drive!

Scratch the SS wheel's idea... The SS and base Cobalt's run different lug patterns... SS wheels are 5x110 and base wheels are 4x100... :(

Do they even make some good looking 5 spoke wheels for my lug pattern? Is that what civics and those sorts of cars run?

Oh, stop whining like a little bitch and just do it. :smooch:

No seriously though, IMO the difference between the Cobalt and the Cobalt SS is like the difference between the Lancer and the Evo....

I'm sure it would have nothing to do with the fact that the difference is boost and no boost on both cars... :smooch:

Ha ha, that too, but I was talking strictly looks. I am definately not impressed with the SC'd Cobalt, one of those would get roasted by the Talon.

It really wouldn't surprise me. I think these things are engineered a tad bit better than the Cavaliers ever were. lol... I was reading earlier and I think mine has 175hp stock. I think weight might play a big part in it too though, because I was spinning from 1st to 2nd and even during 2nd to 3rd... It actually feels semi-powerful. lol... A built SS would actually be comparable to a FWD DSM I think... :uhoh:

Most honda's (if not all) have the 4 bolt pattern, so that'd be where a wheel search would start.

I actually did a full rebuild on a GM mystery engine which we figured out was, either that same engine or really close to the 2.4 in dat bad boy. It has DOHC 2 balance shafts pent compustion chambers (sound familiar), a sleeved aluminum block and a timing chain! thing would probably love boost

Is this an SS? I see that they made an SS and an SS Supercharged. This is what I was looking at for the numbers since I have always been curious about these cars.

Nah, mine is just an LS... Nothing special or fancy I guess... But I've been doing a little bit of research on these things and it's interesting how much different they are from the LT and SS models... So many differences that it makes it hard to find anything to fit it.

I think I might try and put an SS suspension on it, or find a nice aftermarket suspension. The SS suspension will drop it almost 3 inches from where it stands now and stiffen it up a whole lot more... :uhoh:

I'm also looking at possibly some 18 inch wheels that are a black 5 spoke with a polished lip... I know that is so overdone nowadays, but I think it will look good on a blue car... But I donno...

I am also gonna do some eyelids on it I think, just to make it look a tad bit aggressive on the front end... Maybe tint the windows up a bit... I think that'll be all I do to it then... Just a few things to make it look better and I'll still have the reliability of it for a daily driver...
