Hi, has anyone ever got their car painted at MAACO's? It is a large collision repair/paint shop company with over 500 locations nationwide. I am thinking of taking my car there around Xmas in Oklahoma City. From what I have heard, they do the best work around for the price. They give you a basic factory looking paint job for $250, but I doubt I choose that one although everyone says it is well worth it. What are you guys opinions???
Also, if anyone has any pics of their car they took to MAACO, I would love to see them. :grinyes:

All one needs to do is look on their chart as to how a particular paint job will look. The $250 (Ambassador?) paint job is not going to be a good one. It may look good when it comes out, but what counts is what it looks like a year down the road.

Im definitlely not going with the $250 paint. Have you let them paint one of your cars before silicon?

I've never had a car painted by them, however their more expensive options seem pretty good.

the $250 ambassador paint service is... ok, like silicon said it wont last. if you where to get it i would suggest doing all the prep work yourself. after all, one hour of body work is not a lot, especially on a big car. overall they do pretty good work if you are willing to pay for one of their more expensive packages

that sounds about like what I am looking for. I wish I could have it already primed and everything for them as i want the body work done right. i didn't know they preped everything in a hour. I hope that they will take my advice and take their time instead of the hour prepping. I dont care if it takes 2 weeks as long as its done right. Would you happen to be able to upload their pics so I can see their work?

they use PPG and Dupont auto finishes. i think its more like 3 hours of body labor (dent and rust repair) for the ambassador. it goes ambassador, presidential, supreme, and signature. you will pay over $1000 for the signature

a freind of mine took his camaro there. when he got it back it was painted in yellow like he asked. so were his wheels, windows, lights, chrome and even some of his interior. he asked the manager why this stuff wasn't masked like it should be, and the guys answer was " thats another $400 to mask. and you paid for teh cheap paint job. so there you go. pay us!" i will NEVER take my cars there. if your going to paint a car take it to a GOOD body shop. it may be more expencive but you get what you pay for.

I agree, you get what you pay for. After talking with a guy with a 76 Impala who did all the bodywork himself and painted the car black I expect to pay close to 2 g's for my paint and body work. His car was flawless and the black paint was like a mirror.

So being as how maaco has a bad reputation, what would be the next approach for finding a place to do it? I'm considering just looking through the phone book and asking around, then theres the word of mouth option, my neighbor says he knows someone. im looking to not spend anymore than $500

You wont get much for $500... I just talked to a body shop about painting my 83 they quoted me $2000 and that’s just for basic body work and paint, and they aren’t even the best in the area. My car has no body rot just surface rust in places

Im gon say yes and no...Good Painters have to start out somewhere....but the reason there paint jobs are trash is because there prep work is trash...If your body aint on point the paint on gonna be on point...if you do your own body work and put alot of work into or get someone who knows how to do it and then take it to maaco you would be surprised at the outcome..

For everyone's info a gallon of average base coat, not red, is about 275.00 cost, plus clear coat and primers, and the usual shop material, so there is no 500 " paint job" .
