After wet sanding and painting my bumpers with krylon fusion and blaking out my emblems I decided to be creative and use an idea ive seen floating around the internet.
Heres some pics of the car.
It looks shiny but its just wet.

I got incredibly lucky and managed to nab speaker pods in the junkyard, I just threw some speakers I had lying around in. The fronts are nice infinitys'.

Actually I havent put the rear on, it was getting dark. And yes thats how I put it on, but I used scotch brand indoor/outdoor heavy duty double sided tape instead of screws. So far in one day of heat it has held up ok.

Heres me putting the rear on, it came out MUCH better than th front once we figured out what it took to get it to stick out right on the corners (the front tucks under because of the tension)

I seem to be missing the pic of the whole rear end after we got the other piece on but I think it looks damn sexy.
Oh and here is my friends mazda that we just had to put one on afterwards, his cost less than 10 bucks. And it contoured to the raised portions very well.

Now do the sides, make some skirt lips... that was the first thing I did w/ my first nissan... 'cept I used some cut-up metal shelving welded and grinded... it looked pretty nice.
Speaking of HomeDepot customs, anyone know if stove paint (black) will adhere to a header/turbo under extreme operating conditions?
Actually, I was thinking about doing the whole exhaust w/ it, b/c it's insulating paint too, and will help keep the heat in. And we all know more heat == higher velocity exhaust flow == more scavenging and HP.
I'm a little worried about fuel mileage at this point, what with gas prices being what they are, but as long as I stay in the 30 ballpark, I'm happy.

WOW.
I must say I was totally ready to flame the shit out of you. But they do look VERY good for home depot.
Good job. I think I may do this to my beater hatch. How hard is the material? It almost looks like foam.

Its weatherstripping, and from the looks of it from his cuts, it is Foam....which in a way isn't bad since it will give some if it hits something, but could also tear. But with how cheap it is, its easy to fix :)
Right now I'm looking into my options for lips, know where I can get my hands on some CF Side skirts, but it would look funny with just CF side skirts and plastic front and rear lips.

just how flexible is it? it could look very silly when cruising down the road and its blowing back under the bumper.

Its like a stiff foam rubber, very flexible off the car but once its on it doesnt move much at all. And I havent seen any flapping on my friends mazda going down the road. I appreciate your restraint lol.
By the way, They also sell a hard rubber version which im told is stiffer but apparently both home depot stores here didnt have any. Has exactly the same shape. Ill dig up the thread off srt forums where I found it.

So after driving behind my own car I can say that there is really no flex in the lips at speed.

Ever notice the painted black mufflers on a 96-99 camry? Yeah, it peels right off. Saw the neighbors peel off over time. My Jeep's tail pipe was painted too and looked great and then I drove a few hundred miles, the paint just sorta disappeared and looks dirty/rusty now.
Frodo, nice job. I was going to do that for my CRX but stupid me was going to Lowes and they never had the right stuff (just that flimsy stuff Hybrid was refering to)...

I dunno, my dad has this stuff that sticks to his woodstove when we have the pipes over 800* (burning out creosote... it sounds cool as hell.) but it's never come off, can says if you prep and spray it, then bake it dry, recote, and bake again, it will harden like enamel, and won't peel under extreme (up to 1100* F operation.)

doesnt like autozone sell high temp exhaust paint?
Christ
11-06-2007, 08:32 PM
yeah, they do, and you have to bake it on, or else it will just come back off.. hell, you could spray your stuff w/ undercoating, and that actually works, although it smells bad for a day or two while running it, and it doesn't come off for a couple weeks at least, until the dirt starts getting to it.
Now I'm thinking about wrapping the header and downpipe up tight, and maybe the cat too, and just painting anywhere that you would see... that's all I really want, is just to make things less noticeable.
