I put 2 cans of tamiya clearcoat over my itr today (12-1-02), It has alot of clear on it, I put alot so when I polish it, I won't go down to the paint, was this such a wise thing to do? The car does'nt look like it has a thick coat of clear becuase I sprayed it evenly and it looks normal, my worst fear is rubbing the paint off.

2 cans is a huge amount...but i suppose the possiblilty of rubbing through has greatly dimminished now, but 2 cans holy shit man! :bloated: personally i don't think you need that much protection.
Seriously though, let us know what happends... :)

Don't I have to wait about 3 days before I start polishing? If so, then I'll tell you what happens on wedsday (if I have time)
Funny thing is, one side didnt get enough clear, all I had was 2 cans, if I had 3 , I would'ev used half of the 3rd can too.

$10 just for clearcoating... wow... :D
Talk about hidden costs :p
I've been using Testor's lacquer clear coat as it comes in all 3 different flavors: flat, semigloss and gloss
:D
3-4 pass is enough for a model... A can of clear coat would last me 3 models

Don't forget the 4 dollars I spent for paint, and the 6 dollars I spent for the primer, thats a $20 paint job, watch out Kicker1_solo, you might get beat by a newbie , J/K :D

3 days should be fine, but you can make that a week, especially with the amaount of clear you used. I always put it a week or more aside to be save.
As long as you spray evenly and the panels lines are still there, you should be fine. Will make a shiny ITR  :sun:

2 cans seems like a lot but what size were they? A 4 or 8 once can won't cover much you know. Personally I don't use gloss clear on my kits, I use a secret top coat that if I told you about I would have to kill you all!!!:finger:

You could have bought a clear view kit and saved money! With that much clear on it, can you still see it?
Just kidding! With that much paint I would let it dry for a month. You only need 2 or three coats of clear to make for good polishing thickness.

Are you sure? I'm not sure the exact science of spray paint, but with 2 cans of coat, the panel lines are bound to be filled up... Maybe not fully, but just enough to make black-wash harder (no longer a sharp panel, but more "curvy").

2 cans!!! One can of clearcoat can usually last me about 3-5 models.
You do know that tamiya clearcoat is un-polishable...don't you ;) ...J/K
Hope it works out, while I still need to get the body of my ITR to be smooth enough to paint (a lot of putty work...that I am now starting to regret  )

For sure you have the sharp edgy panel lines, but he should use a marker pen then instead. Look at the Sonax Benz that I just finished. It was my first model for which I used a marker pen, and here and there it's not 100% but I had a lot of clear as well...
I didn't knew there was an exact science on spray painting... :)
