Spark Plug Wires

I finally fixed my 95 Formula that was running poorly. I had replaced the optispark but not the wires. At least one was burned (no. 7), and broke apart easily when pulled. This was a black Delco wire and, you couldn't tell by looking at it that it was burned. I replaced them all with Accel 9000 series ultra-high temp wires, and it runs great. It took about 5 hours, and I only removed the alternator. I also pulled all the spark plugs (except no. 8, didn't want to take off the starter) and checked them too. There's a lot of blind work involved where you just have to feel your way. Swivel sockets and an air ratchet made things easier. There's some places where you can only use a finger ratchet or something else small. A couple times I had to lay across the top of the engine on a mat to get to the passenger side ones, but it can be done. Anyway, just wanted to say to those that have the same problems (poor idle, power loss, especially when the car is heated up) that they should definitely consider changing their plug wires before trying some other more expensive things. I recommend the Accel wires too.

I find on alot of longitutal motors these days, going from the bottom is much easier than the top tho.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention I was under the car a lot too. I don't think you could do it all from the top. I did a good job of degreasing the bottom of the engine with my face.

It's good for the skin, and alot cheaper than the goo women put on theirs. :lol2:

Although, I do find it kind of difficult at times to work with the cumcombers in my eyes, but you learn. :grinyes:
