valve seals or valve guides. i have one(92) that has been doing this for three years, with no ill effects. mike

p.s. it is worse the colder the weather gets! it is a weakness of the 2.2 sohc.

I have the same problem with my 98 626 (Only done 83k miles!)
Had new valve seals & guides fitted (new cam belt at same time) synthetic oil etc etc but this has made no difference, so the car is going in next week for a total engine re-build!

so i guess ur valve train pretty good... did u check if u got a crack head/cylindar. check the side wall of ur head and cylindar if u have exterior leak.. that would cause a leak in ur combastion cimber that come's out of ur exhause... but firt is it smile like sweet the smoke.. if it is u got a leak colaant
