Tires and Alignment

The last three cars we had all drove with the steering wheel turned a few degrees to the left when driving a straight path. I had the New Yorker alignment done but it didn't improve this. I did not notice unusual wear on the tires.
Today I put a new set of tires on the car and the steering wheel is now centered while driving a straight path. What's up with this? I can't explain this. Anyone know how this would work?

There are a variety of facotrs of the tires can cause the car to pull in one direction or another. Wear, tread pattern, compound, etc. When it pulls, its going to offset the angle of the steering wheels even though you're going in a straight line.
