Alternator Exciter Problem

I have a 1992 Cougar. With a new alternator (replaced due to bushings and diodes). The alternator does not charge, unless the exciter voltage is manually kicked in, Turnsignals and fan blower do not work and the "Charging" warning light does not energize.

Other circuits seem to be working fine. Is there a fusible link somewhere?
