This may be a stupid question, but with a TT VR4 (the VR4's are TT right?), why would you want to spend the money on a swap that you could spend on upgrading your current setup? I'm not asking to be an ass, just kinda curious.

well my buddy tyler has a RB20 swap in his 240sx which made me think..i have always wanted to do some crazy swap no one has ever seen before..and with my TT setup i should have enough room for it..my biggest obstacle would be the tranny, from AWD to RWD, that might be a tuffy for me.. i mean if it doesnt work then it doesnt work..bt if its possible..im tryin it..

I think it's cool that you would want to do something different, but (and fellas, correct me if I'm wrong, please), wouldn't you be downgrading by spending money on a single turbo setup and building up on that whereas you'd be upgrading by working on your current setup? I mean, I guess it's your money to spend, but it doesn't seem logical :-/.

I believe (again, someone correct me if I'm wrong) you would have to change your diff along with the tranny when going from AWD to just RWD. I don't know if an SL diff would be something to swap in, since it'd be staying with the same type of car or what, but I believe that's one of the aspects you'd have to work on.

Yeah, it would really be a downgrade, maybye if your trying to drift it would be helpful with a slightly smaller and less weighty engine, but drifting a 3000 would be ridiculously expensive (as far as repairint the eventual body damage lol). but the big thing is that you would have to spend much more money to get similar power out of the new engine than the moderately tuned old one.

also, I havent reasearched it, but Ive been under my car a bit and i would be hard pressed to mount a rwd tranny in there.

If your really looking to do an odd conversion, try to buy some car with a blown engine, dont ruin a vr4 PLEASE! buy an sl with a ecu problem or head gasket or something, ro it would be very cool to get a celica or a fiero or something and do that swap... wow, a fiero with an sr20 or rb26 would be amazing!

just stick with the engine u have. there's tonnes out there for it to increase power and the vr4 itself is a very much loved car(i prefer my stealth but w/e).

would it be something different, yes. would it be worth doing...not really. if u wanna do that type of thing, try it with a vr4 or sl that needs a new engine or something. that way ur not destroying a good car.

This is ridiculous.

You could import and legalize a skyline for less.

This is just stupid.

"Can I swap a LS1 in my Dodge Colt?"

Thats how stupid this is.

And on that note, I'm going to close this one as well.

airman, you've got a great car to work with already. The best option available to you is to put the money that you would put into swapping your engine into modifying your current setup. You would be spending more money for equal or less power by doing an engine swap with the motors you're discussing. It just isn't a logical or overall, very smart decision.

Stick with what you have, build it up and take pride in it. Don't waste your time or money on something just for the "hey, look what I did, isn't that different?" aspect - you'll end up sorely disappointed.
