2002 Trooper engine clicking

I have a 2002 Trooper that prioviously had the engine repllaced (broken crankshaft). I have put roughly 12k miles since i have had the truck, the new engine only had 2k before i got it. I have changed the oil but was coming up do for another, and the oil light came on. I added oil and had planned to change the oil this weekend, but now the engine is making a pretty loud clicking noise. I didnt notice it until i began to slow a little getting off the highway. If the engine was revved a little, the clicking got louder....and it was still present when idle. Any clues? Please don't tell me the engine is about to go again.

the oil idiot light is for oil pressure of couse, not oil amount, but if you were that low, it doesn't bode well.

i'm assuming you didn't have this ticking noise before? does it go away or always stay. valve train ticking is not all that uncommon for this engine, but if it is a new sound perhaps your low oil pressure caused some damage there that may or may not require attention.

as a start, i would change the oil and the oil filter. keep tabs on the oil level. like every day. add if 1/2 qt or more low. consider getting an oil pressure test with a pressure gauge which will be more accurate than the dash gauge. btw, what are the cold and hot, idle and ~2500-3000rpm ?

is the oil being low a new thing for you?

Sell your Trooper to me. I'll take care of it, I'll fix it up. I have always wanted a Trooper. :)
