Problem at Warm-up

Hello,
I have been trying to get a 1992 Nissan Stanza back on the road that sat for a few years. It runs great after it warms up, but when it is warming up it has a cycling surge in power while driving and and at idle.
I raced the engine around 3000 rpm and the surge is about a 200 rpm difference every 2 seconds. Then when the engine warms up ,like flipping a switch, the engine will hold steady at about 3500. The other thing that I noticed is that if the gas pedel is feather touched the rpm will drop about 150 rpm before rising and the engine will make bad spark knock before rising too.
The engine light is off.
