Replacing Vinyl Top

Hey guys and gals.
Anyone ever replace a vinyl top or have any idea how it should be done?
I can feel a nice little rust bubble under mine and would prefer to not just tear the vinyl off and paint the roof, as I would love to keep the car 'numbers matching'. Any suggestions?
