PCV Valve plugged

Alright my fellow Metroids... Took off the PCV valve and some green runny snot stuff come out. Blew out the hose and then tried to blow through the pcv valve and about popped my ear drums. Ain't nothing getting through there! I have had the car (93 Xfi 158,000 miles) for one complete tank and got 49.8 mpg's. Not complaining just want more. Can this pcv valve cause a drop in mileage?? Also at a stop light the idle will act up a bit to the point I think it might stall but doesn't. I'll make sure to reply to this after another tank to note any mileage increase. Also, checked the fuel filter and there's soooo much rust on it, it looks like it's never been changed. :banghead:

If there's "soooo much rust" on the fuel filter, you had better be checking the underside / subframe of the car also for alot of rust too.....(:nono: ).......If you find surface rust, anywhere on the frame....clean it off good (degrease it, Wirewheel or wirebrush the area), then paint the rusted area's ASAP!!!.... these subframes rust easy on these cars. When they do, their history (No repairing the frame)...... No matter how good the engine runs! While your at it......get rid of the rusted up fuel filter with a new one before it rusts out and starts leaking!

PCV VALVE TEST

Remove PCV valve from valve cover.
Run the engine at idle.
Place your thumb over end of valve to check for vacuum. If there is no vacuum at valve, check for plugged hoses or manifold port, or PCV valve. Replace plugged or deteriorated hoses.
Turn the engine "OFF" and remove PCV valve, shake valve and listen for a rattle of the needle inside. If valve does not rattle, replace valve.

If and when you replace the Fuel Filter - why not bypass the filter under the car
by the tank with high pressure fuel line.

Then cut the line coming from the firewall to the Throttle Body in the engine
compartment and place the Fuel Filter up front where you can replace it with ease!

This has worked quite well for me!

The designer who put the Fuel Filter in that hideously inaccessible place tucked
in next to the Fuel Tank should be made to replace Fuel Filters in Hell for eternity!

No problemo - now I can replace it in 5 minutes instead of hours under the car
with fuel splashing all over me.

Gasoline tastes bad, burns the eyes and makes you stink!

And makes you Oh so Flammable and possibly incandescent !
No smoking within 25 feet of the Fuel Tank or any open window or vent....
