Alero - No Start Unless Trunk Relay Fuse Is Out

First I want to thank everyone that contributes on this site as both my father and I have found answers to our questions here.

Have a new problem and I don't see any threads about this in particular.

Car: 2002 Olds Alero GL 3.4L 56k mi

Car started up several times, then sat for a couple hours and would not respond to keyless remote. Once used key to open, car would not start. Press the lock button or leave the door open with the keys in the ignition and no "beep" noise. Security light blinking as normal. Car will not start after leaving the keys in the ON position for 10min and turning off and trying to start sequence to disable Passlock.

Car will run for a couple seconds if starter is jumped. Checked all the fuses and the fuel pump is working.

By dumb luck I pulled the Trunk Relay/Radio Amp fuse ("B" on the driver side fused panel) and car will start with key. Obviously the radio does not work when this is pulled, but car will run. Checked the Trunk Relay (relay fuse powers) and seems fine. It does look as if the windshield is leaking above the computer slightly (can't be good at all and will look for leak). I pulled the fuse "box" on the driver side and cleaned up and contacts that didn’t look good ("B" being one of them) on both the box and three large plugs. Also coated all contacts with dialectic grease.

So my thought is:
A) Something is run through the radio and is trashed, or
B) Possible bad ground somewhere is giving feedback.

Any help at all with this matter would be greatly appreciated, especially sense this is my girlfriends car and she is going to school almost two hours away.

Welcome to AF.

Have your tried pulling the fuse, starting the car and while its running putting the fuse back in ?

It sounds like you have a passlock problem....
But more precisely an ignition switch problem. :dunno:

The passlock relearn is as follows, you might try the full relearn and see if it helps.
Security relearn procedure:

1) Attempt to start the car by turning the key to the Start/Run Position.
2) Observe that the vehicle fails to start and that the security light is illuminated.
3) Release key to the 'ON/Accessory' Position. (DO NOT turn key to the 'off' position.)
4) Allow the vehicle to sit with the key in the 'ON/Accessory' Position for no less than 11 minutes.
5) Turn key to off position and allow the vehicle to remain in the 'OFF' position for no less than 30 seconds.
6) Repeat #1 - #5 for 3 cycles.
7) On 4th attempt, car should start.

NOTE : Since this is a fairly long procedure, I would limit all electrical sources, such as disconnecting headlights, to prevent discharge of battery.

NOTE 2 : It is SAFE to wait LONGER than the allotted time, but it is not safe to wait less time. I.e. 12 minutes instead of 11 minutes should be safe; however, waiting 10 minutes instead of 11 minutes is not safe.

Properly executed, this procedure should take approximately 35 minutes to complete

Also if water has leaked onto the fuse box(s) then thiers a big chance you will probly have a bad body control module (BCM) due to the short.
Best bet is to fix the leak so nothing else get wet and shorts out.
A BCM can only be checked out by the stealership only and thier fancy scan tool.

Good Luck.
