Fuel delivery problem, HELP..please...

I have a 97 CVLX with 172 K ,That had a very hesitent throttle response and had to turn the key 2-3 times to get pressure from the pump to start the engine. I had replaced the Idle Air Control and the fuel pump and strainer. It ran great for a day but when I came out the following morning it turned over and acted like it was flooded ,turned it over a couple more times it started with a miss and alot of blue smoke, later that day it started like it was flooded and missing on a cyl. and ran ok. My wife then went to the store and said it was running rough @ 40MPH then cleared up. Could an injector be sticking open? The old fuel pump had 12PSI for who knows how long.New pump has alot more.
any help would be great

Replace the fuel filter if it's never been done. Drivability could be compromised if the fuel pressure regulator is faulty.

Sounds like it is an injector problem. The only way to find out for sure is to remove plugs after it sits for a while and see if you can see which cylinders are flooded. If the check engine light comes on, you amy be able to determine which side of the engine or even which cylinder.

I failed to mention that a month before I replaced the fuel pump I replaced the FPR and a short time later replaced the fuel filter,Which must have been the original because the gas that came out of the filter looked like very dirty water.
Question, If an injector fails can it be intermitent or would it just not work??

It could be intermittent if it is a wiring problem. If the injector itself fails, it will not change the way it operates. It will be stuck somewhere and either no fuel will flow, or it will constaly flow some.

Changed battery with new ,and no problems starting yet,thanks to all who posted,Ron
