Air conditioning pump removal

95 Grand Am. 2.3ltr. 125k miles. The pump is going to need replacing. Can I take it in to a auto shop and have them remove the freon, then so I can replace the pump myself? Thanks.

yeah some shops will do this for you for a small fee.
$25-40 depending on location.
Might be a good time so switch over to the new refrigerant if your 95 hasnt already. R-22 (freon) refrigerant wont be for sale after Jan 2010, that will be the end of R-22.

Just got a "small fee" number from the local shop. $95 to remove it, $200 to put it back in. I'm in the wrong business!

That is exactly why people just let it out into the air,
then get it recharged. :disappoin
Heck they should pay you for it, it's all recycled/resold.
