Max A/C

On my 2002 Ranger, I cannot regulate the temp when I'm in MAX A/C mode.
If I change from A/C mode to MAX A/C, I can hear it switch into recirc mode and it cools the truck down quickly. If I then turn the temp control to a warmer setting, the temp of the air initially gets warmer but eventually (within 2-3 minutes) gets very cold again. I've even tried turning the temp control all the way CW (HOT) and cold air still comes out of the vents.
In normal A/C mode, the temp control works normally. I can pick any temp I want.
Shouldn't I still be able to adjust the temp in MAX A/C (recirc) mode?

In normal A/C mode, the thermostat works great. I can pick any temp I want. Shouldn't I still be able to adjust the temp in MAX A/C mode?

I would assume so. Do you know if your ranger has electronic climate controls? If so, have you tried resetting them?

That's about the best I got, sorry.

Good luck!

UsedtobeSmart,
An electronic climate control, I assume, would mean that it has a digital temp display also, right? I do not have that, so resetting it wouldn't be an option. Thanks for your reply, tho!

I emailed a local radio station car repair show and got the following solution:

************************************************** ********
On vehicles with a heater control valve (I think your truck has one) when you go to MaxAC, it shuts the heater valve and no hot water flows thru the heater core.
Look along the heater hoses and find the valve near the fire wall and then unhook the vacuum line to it. That will allow the valve to stay open and you will be able to regulate the temp while in MaxAC.

I tried this and it works great. Be sure to plug the vacuum line!!

I believe Max AC is designed to cool the car down as quick as possible, Everything set to get you cool the quickest. after you get cool set to normal AC and adjust the temperature where you like it

The problem with that, toddler62, is when in NORMAL mode, outside air enters the interior of the truck. MaxAC is great for cooling down but if you want a 'recirc' function AND adjustable temp control, you have to disable the vacuum to the heater hose valve.
